Welcome Message
VEDC is one of five campuses that comprise the Abu Dhabi Education Training Institute (ADVETI), which was established by Royal Decree, in 2005 by H.H Shiekh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
VEDC provides an integrated curriculum of academic and vocational studies that leads to qualifications that support both continuing studies and the needs of the workplace. Unlike the other four ‘mainstream’ campuses of ADVETI, VEDC has a unique focus on developing young Emirati males who have previously disengaged from formal learning. There are currently 1150 boys, aged between 14 and 23 years, under instruction with student numbers planned to double by December 2013. The modal age is 17 years, and the modal education level upon entry is 6th grade.
Our Mission
"The Mission of the Vocational Education Development Centre is to provide alternative education for Emirati boys where they can develop their characters, academic and vocational skills so that they have a better chance of succeeding in the workplace”
Message from Managing Director
We are living in an age of momentum, of progress and innovation, where the keys to success lie within the ability to master new knowledge and ideas. As economic, social and technological changes gather pace, young people must develop their knowledge and skills, on a continuous basis; so that they can live and work meaningfully in the knowledge society. Quality Vocational Education help develop the individual’s knowledge of science and technology in a broad occupational scope requiring technical and professional competencies and specific occupational skills. VEDC needs to develop the knowledge and skills that will help the workforce become more flexible and responsive to the needs of local workforce markets, while enabling the UAE economy to compete globally. VEDC is determined to achieve the “Emiratization of Technological Careers”.

Pleased to be the lead administrator, I seek your commitment to a thriving learning community that works diligently to fulfill its mission. The challenges are great, but so are the opportunities. May your years here be filled with an educational fulfillment and social gratification.

Dr. Khodair Abid
Managing Director

Principal's Message
VEDC is a boarding institute that caters for Emiratis who have an interest in vocational studies rather than mainstream academic education.  Our programmes are industry-based and all our graduates are given assistance to find a job at the end of their programme. VEDC offers alternative learning pathways which focus on applied learning methods (hands-on learning) which are well integrated with a personal development programme that educates young men in self-discipline, work ethics and employability skills which enable them to keep on the right track for lifelong employment.
VEDC provides an integrated curriculum of academic and vocational studies which leads to qualifications that support both continuing studies and the needs of the workplace.  VEDC students graduate after three years with an internationally recognized vocational qualification (i.e. a TAFE CERT III accredited by the Australian Qualifications Framework) which is a vocational qualification required by tradesmen.
Most of our industry partners allow VEDC graduates to be placed in their companies to complete their training and become a qualified tradesman by using a specially designed two-year apprenticeship programme. Thus, when students graduate from VEDC they are ‘work ready'. The curriculum design of our programmes is flexible and can be tailored to suit the requirements of any industry. As a result of this, many industry partners actually take time to develop the curriculum ‘hand-in-hand’ with VEDC specialists to ensure that their specific needs are met.
